Terminology considerations

Terminology

The Belgian FHIR profiles preferably use controlled, standard terminologies.

The terminologies referenced in this specification are:

  • SNOMED-CT

  • Belgian-specific Code Systems and value sets

  

SNOMED

The current version of SNOMED-CT to use with FHIR profiles is the Belgian release (15-03-2020). It can be browsed here:

Belgian Value Sets and Code Systems

The following value sets and code systems have been defined for the Belgium implemnentations - they are technical, legal or clinical concepts for which the international terminologies were not sufficient. These code systems and value sets follow the same governance as the other FHIR resources.
